Traditional Japanese books are ‘stab bound’ ie the sewing is through the side of each page rather than the spine as in Western style. The Japanese style is distinguished from, for example Chinese or Korean, mainly by the number of sewing points.
Authentic books use soft covers and thin paper which, because ink bleeds through it, are written upon on one side only. Consequently each ‘page’ is two pages folded back to back. My interpretations (A-D below) follow these conventions except that the paper that I use is rather more substantial.
E and F are hard cover stab bindings. H, J and K are ‘long stitch’ bindings with wrap around covers and some simple stitched decoration.
Prices range from £4 to £5 reflecting the size and nature of the books. Please enquire for further information.
